SEO Internet Marketing News
Future SEO Value With Twitter Tweets
Google Inc., Yahoo Inc., and Microsoft Corp. are working to include Twitter Inc. messages in their search engines, giving more exposure to the social-networking service.
The companies, which lead the US search market, made separate announcements about letting users get Twitter messages, called tweets, in query results. Microsoft also plans to include Facebook Inc. messages in its Bing search engine.
Since Twitter started gaining popularity the question about its “SEO value” has been on the minds of many webmasters who obviously want to boost their placement into Google’s SERPs. But using Twitter for “link juice” is a lost battle in Google’s ranking methodology, until now.
Although Twitter is a social media tool meant to create community and relationships, it does have a future SEO value within the major search engines.
Currently, a number of other indirect SEO benefits from Twitter can be realized as follows:
- By posting your Tweets to your main website home page. This frequent content updating will help increase the authority of your home page.
- If you have a blog you can create a new Tweet for each new blog topic, If you have enough followers this should help create additional back-links to your site. Assuming your followers are in a similar field they may put a link to you article on their site or re-tweet the article that can be picked up by their followers.
- Your Twitter profile page will be indexed by Google. This means that you can use the title tag on this page to deliver organic traffic to your site.
- Twitter can be of value as a means of syndicating your content across the web.
Twitter, which lets people share 140-character messages, has attracted millions of users over the past year. Twitter will help search-engine users get more up-to-the-minute information on query topics.
So far, Twitter hasn’t converted its popularity into significant revenue. The San Francisco-based company had 20.9 million users in September, up about 18-fold from a year earlier, according to research firm ComScore Inc.
Google expects to showcase its Twitter features in coming months, Microsoft is testing its Twitter features and Yahoo, based in Sunnyvale, Calif., also said it’s experimenting with Twitter feeds in search results.
